Curd Rice

Curd rice is a famous south Indian food dish hailing from the state of Tamil Nadu. Considered as an inevitable part of the meal, the rice tastes awesome and are very cooling for the system. Many Indian restaurants in Melbourne offer this dish as a part of their south Indian food.

Let's check out the method to cook curd rice today:


  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Curd - 1 cup
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Tomatoes
  • (finely chopped) - 1 cup
  • Grated carrots - 1/2 cup
  • Grated cucumber - 2 tbsp
  • Chopped capsicum - 2 tbsp
  • Grated ginger - 1 tbsp
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Urad dal -1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • Kadi patta - few leaves


Cooking Method:

  • Pressure cook the rice for 3 to 4 whistles.
  • After cooking, mash it well with hand or masher.
  • Add milk in the mashed rice.
  • Once the mixture gets cooled, add curd, salt and vegetables. Mix it well.
  • Take a pan, put oil in it.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add kadi patta and allow it to splutter.
  • Add urad dal and let it become brown.
  • Pour the mixture of rice and curd in the pan.
  • Mix the whole stuff well.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander.
  • Serve with pickle and enjoy!!
