Zeera Aloo

Probably the easiest vegetable sabzi, Zeera aloo is eaten during fasts and otherwise. Simple yet tasty this dry sabji goes perfect with puri, roti or bread. An absolute delight for all potato lovers, this sabji can be cooked in any season. Offered by all Indian restaurants in Melbourne, it is absolutely loved by kids.

Ingredients:

Large sized potatoes - 3
Oil - 3 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Chopped green chillies - 2 tsp
Turmeric power - 1/2 tsp
Lemon juice - 1 1/2 tsp
Finely chopped coriander - 2 tbsp
Salt - to taste

Method:

  • Cut the potatoes into equal sized cubes.
  • In a non stick pan, take oil, heat it and add cumin seeds.
  • Once the cumin seeds splutter, add chopped potatoes.
  • Cover the pan and cook the potatoes for at least 10-12 minutes.
  • Keep stirring frequently until potatoes get cooked.
  • Add chopped green chillies, turmeric powder, lemon juice, salt and coriander.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
  • Stir well and serve hot.
